The technical perfect solution would be to have DxWnd hook the process after it is decompressed and fixed in memory (this operation is made initially by the exe itself) but I must admit I'm still far from the needed technical skill to do this operation (in addition, to make things more complicated, not all obfuscation techiques are identical.). There is a DxWnd "Hot patch" flag to bypass this problem, but it oly works in a few cases and for system calls, while here I suspect that the fullscreen mode is started by the bink video system, that is obfuscated too. With ordinary games, it is usually sufficient to look for an unobfuscated version of the executable (many hackers do this operation when they build a working crack) ad apply DxWd on this version of the game, but this is not possible for steam games that are checked for integrity and stopped if not identical to what expected.

In particular, stripping imported symbols makes it impossible to DxWnd to intercept the system calls and patch them to provide windowing and other features. This simply means that the game was "obfuscated" stripping away all possible references to imported symbols with the explicit intent to avoid patching, hooking, cracking or reverse engineering of the assembly code.
